Our patented Somni-Sage® screening tool helps identify drivers who may be at risk for obstructive sleep apnea.
It's estimated that only 15% of adults with sleep apnea have been diagnosed. Serious medical conditions frequently linked to sleep apnea - and worsened by it - include high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, asthma, insomnia, depression, and anxiety. Lack of awareness of the condition and its symptoms in the transportation industry leads to the condition being underreported–and many who are aware that they are experiencing abnormal symptoms are still reluctant to report things like drive-time drowsiness.
Common risk factors associated with sleep apnea include:
Obesity
Male Gender
A Large Neck
Poor-quality Sleep
PSS makes fleet-wide screening for sleep apnea simpler, all through the use of the Somni-Sage® encrypted, HIPAA-compliant questionnaire. Specifically developed from data collected from commercial truck drivers, Somni-Sage has a very high predictive rate in identifying which workers in your mobile workforce are most likely to have sleep apnea. It has been awarded a U.S. patent in recognition of its unique utility in screening.
Carriers can choose to screen new hires, their existing fleet, or begin with a regional pilot. For the trucking industry, Somni-Sage results can be coupled with a driver's pending DOT exam with all health information protected between PSS, the driver, and the DOT examiner. PSS can also work with the carrier caring for ONLY those operators who have been referred by DOT examiners for testing.
By utilizing state-of-the-art home sleep test technology, we assure reliable test results while maximizing driver convenience.
PSS takes an operator-first approach, so your commercial operators can be tested where you need them to be. Portable/home sleep testing allows the operator to sleep at home or in their vehicle (if applicable) while being tested. Our hands-on approach to portable testing utilizes state-of-the-art home test devices that are backed by hundreds of peer-reviewed articles.
The right combination of technology and best practices ensures an exceptional success rate for diagnosis. The wrist-mounted technology we've chosen uses peripheral arterial tomography (PAT), along with other physiological measurements, to provide clinical data comparable to what's obtained in a sleep lab. Reports are generated immediately. Once diagnosed, your operators can commence treatment right away.
PSS compliance monitoring helps ensure your mobile workforce adheres to sleep apnea treatment, allowing them to access the safety and health benefits of nightly CPAP use.
Operators who go to a sleep center and are diagnosed will be fitted for and provided with a CPAP mask, flow generator, and heated humidifier for nightly use. Portable testing users will have their equipment shipped directly to them.
It is important for operators to understand that the health and safety benefits of treatment for sleep apnea can only be realized if they adhere to nightly CPAP use. To that end, we believe the keys to compliance are operator education, CPAP comfort, and early troubleshooting with problem solving of CPAP-related issues.
To ensure your operators are using their equipment correctly, PSS has partnered with leading manufacturers of CPAP equipment, masks, and providers of wireless compliance monitoring systems. Compliance monitoring provides daily information about CPAP use and efficacy and allows for near real-time troubleshooting of any problems your operators may be experiencing. This enhances your operators' CPAP acceptance and long-term compliance, generating the highest objective long-term CPAP adherence rate in the nation and maximizing your return on investment.
